Research suggests that people are happier and satisfied when they pay close attention to what are they doing. Studies reveal that we spend more than fifty percent of our time thinking and that is often the contributing factor to our unhappiness. Though most of the time, we cannot control what we are thinking, but there is a way to avoid it as much as you can. Mindfulness is simply focusing on what you are doing at the moment rather than thinking about something else.

Though meditation is a very effective way of practicing mindfulness, you need to be mindful all day. If you can be mindful for those few minutes of meditation, then you can practice it for the rest of the day. There are tons of things that you do in a day, here are some of the tips that could help you be mindful whilst doing those things:

Mindful Eating

Food is a necessary part of our lives, but do we know what exactly are we consuming? Whenever you eat, remind yourself to be mindful and think about what are you eating. Pay close attention to each bite as you swallow it; its texture, taste, aroma, and the way it makes you feel. You will find yourself more satisfied and happy with the food.

Mindful Showering

Showering is a great opportunity to distance yourself from the thoughts that you have throughout the day and a way of relaxing and focusing on the moment. Avoid thinking about anything else and focus on the water, its temperature, and the way it makes contact with your skin. This will put your mind at ease and you will be able to spend the rest of the day productively.

Active Listening

Many times when someone tells us something, we are distracted by our thoughts. For active listening, you should concentrate on words coming out of the other person’s mouth and try to pay full attention. This will change the quality of your conversations.

Focus on the Environment

Your environment has a strong role in your well-being. You should focus on your surroundings, such as the people around you, the traffic situation, the sun, the wind, and the way everything affects you. Sometimes, we cut off ourselves from the environment and deprive ourselves of the good it can do to us.

Mindful Cleaning

Whether you are doing dishes, washing clothes, cleaning your kitchen, or mopping the floor, focus on what you are doing rather than thinking about other things. These chores are a great way of bringing mindfulness into your daily life because this is something that we all do on daily basis. Try to focus on the texture of the plates you are washing, the fabric of the cloth that you are washing, and the movement of your body when you are sweeping.

If you start practicing mindfulness today, you will a big change in your life. You will be able to focus on everything and resolve your issues more effectively.
